Oh my gosh!!! I had so much fun last night at the Adobe Creative Jam! In one part of the space teams of talented designers were furiously working to complete a design piece based on the given theme: "For those about to rock, we salute you" by AC/DC. Designers could interpret the theme however they wanted to create something awesome. The participants work will be posted to the Adobe Creative Jam Behance page very soon, so check back!
In case you missed it, I've posted my slides!
I briefly went over my process: Sketch, Render, Troubleshoot and Refine.
I talked about three recent illustration projects with different types of clients (Freelance, In-house and Personal) and talked about how I got started, what problems I ran into, and how I put on the finishing touches.
Project one is an editorial illustration in which I was asked to demonstrate the booming beauty of the Austin tech scene. I talked about the collaboration between me and my art director using InDesign. I also talked about constructing the first rendering in grayscale to establish contrast and composition.
The second project covered a recent project I worked on in-house on the marketing team at my company, Mutual Mobile. My design concept was driven by wanting to keep the design subtle but also clearly linked to the 6th anniversary. When I had trouble drawing the space shuttle, I used Google Sketchup and a rendering I downloaded from the marketplace for an accurate reference to draw from.
The final project I showed was a digital painting I made about a year ago. I think people really enjoyed watching the painting happen right before their eyes!
As always, if you have questions about my process or experience, don't hesitate to ask!
Thanks for reading!
